When It Rains It Pours

Thirsting for love — not I

When it rains it pours — no really
my ex’s best friend IMs me today
do you want to fool around, he says?
you’ve GOT to be kidding
you’re married, and I’m taken.

When it rains it pours — no really
my one true love reappears
haven’t heard from HIM — in over a year
a day late and a dollar short? No way
throw him MY heart AGAIN? Please — I’m taken.

When it rains it pours — no really
friend sets me up — all blind
perfect resume, perfect man? think twice
in a desert thirsting for love — not I
roll the dice! Who says I’m taken?

Yet, when it rains, it pours — oh really
my new flame by MY side at my door
is it I whom HE truly adores
two hearts forever beat?
time will only tell — if I’m taken.

I write about love and loss, what I observe and experience — I write about hope. My writing has been described as resiliently defiant.
