Longing for red and blue tonight

Fluid colors red and blue
Zipped across my window so
Reaching from deep inside MY room
My emotions grabbed but did not know
Longing for red and blue tonight
Never laying eyes on colors so bright

The flower yanked from inside my room
And tasted the sweetness all to discover
Rainbows of myriad spectrum of rays
Entered me tainted, faded away
Sprouting from earth, cautious and wise
Blooming to heaven, only to die.

*This is an older poem, taken from the early 90’s when I had an obsession with the Emily Dickinson style of writing.

Ann Marie Steele

I write poetry about love and loss, what I observe, experience, and pine for. I’m an acrobat, yogi & mom. My writing has been described as resiliently defiant.
